However, the Ohio State Games awards gold medals to both the fastest finisher and the fastest Ohio finisher, so Cloninger won gold with a second place finish out of 17 cyclists in that age group. Both Manchen and Cloninger had an average speed in excess of 23 miles per hour over the 5K hilly course.
By also finishing in the top four, Cloninger qualified for the 2015 National Senior Games cycling time trials to be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In a prior race on June 24, the Men’s 10K Time Trial, Cloninger finished third and received the bronze medal.
