About Susan Squires
Susan E. Squires received a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1983. In 2000, through a grant from the Ohio Arts Council and Zygote Press, she participated in a five-week residency at the Grafikwerkstadt, a print shop in Dresden, Germany. She has lived and worked in Italy. Last July she participated in a three-week residency in Mottola (Puglia) Italy. Inspired by her travels, Squires has chosen the ancient technique of encaustic as her medium. Creating translucent layers of beeswax, the work is built up and scraped away, much like an archeological excavation. The work is shown internationally, including installations in Spoleto, Rome, Pisa and Perugia, Italy. Squires Studio is in Cleveland in the Heller Building.
