About Leslie M. Cross
Leslie was born in Minnesota and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.  From an early age, she loved to draw and paint, creating illustrated books and stories.  Her artistic pursuits continued as a student at Shaker Heights High School and at Oberlin College, where she took classes with Professor Paul Arnold.  Her medium at that time was large-scale woodblock printing.

After graduating from Oberlin College, Leslie’s creative energy took a new course as an elementary school teacher.  A move to Long Island, New York in 1978 and the birth of two children prompted a hiatus from teaching and the opportunity to study and paint with Foo Hong Tatt, an internationally recognized artist.  Leslie painted with Foo Hong Tatt and several of his students for five years.  At that time, most of Leslie’s paintings were large, abstract acrylics echoing the landscapes of mountains, forests, and remote wilderness places.

Recently retired, after more than 25 years of teaching, Leslie is painting once again with a new voice and preferred medium-watercolors.  She seeks to capture unusual and surprising glimpses of an everyday world and record these distilled images for others.  More at
