Cleveland Institute of Music student calls Judson Manor home

Starting in 2010, Judson embarked on an innovative intergenerational housing collaboration with the Cleveland Institute of Music, offering free room and board at Judson Manor to two students for the school year.  In exchange, the students provide programming at all of Judson’s communities.

For the 2012-2013 academic year, Judson welcomes violin student Molly Werts, who joins returning student, Mary Vanhoozer.

Molly Werts grew up in Kansas City, and began playing music at a young age with her folk-musician parents. Ironically, at age six she made her public debut at a retirement community!

Molly graduated from Eastman School of Music and is thrilled to be at the Cleveland Insitute of Music working on her Master’s violin studies with William Preucil. She performs with a number of orchestras in the Cleveland area, and is also active in the Early Music scene.

“The greatest thing about living at Judson is that I can regularly share music with an appreciative community,” says Molly. “It’s a privilege building relationships with an audience over time.”

The students’ music and personalities add to the culturally rich atmosphere of all three of Judson’s communities.  The environment is far from retiring!
