A Taste for Adventure – Home Styles at South Franklin Circle – Part 4

In this monthly series, you’ll meet South Franklin Circle residents who will offer you an intimate look inside their homes. Whether it’s a cottage, attached garden home, apartment or town home – see how each resident adapted the space to their own taste and lifestyle.

Jean Lundin always had a taste for adventure. After the Akron native graduated from Miami University, she traveled the globe and lived in Washington D.C. and Santa Barbara, before settling back in Cleveland.

You could say that her adventurous streak inspired her move to South Franklin Circle. The long-time west side resident lived in the suburb of North Olmsted, in close proximity to a number of retirement living options. But South Franklin Circle stood out enough for her to permanently cross the river.

“I only came over to the east side to visit my good friends in Chagrin Falls. When I started looking, they highly recommended South Franklin Circle,” says Jean. “I really trust their judgment. They were my only link to this side of town; otherwise it was a foreign land.”

It wasn’t long before Jean came for a tour. “I knew the last apartment they showed me with a beautiful view of the woods was the one I wanted!” she says.

Jean’s spacious two-bedroom apartment overlooks the rear expanse of the 90-acre South Franklin Circle campus, including the Metroparks trail that runs through the community and into the Village of Chagrin Falls.

One of the more traditional pieces is a grandfather clock, created by her late husband, using wood from oak trees from in the backyard of their North Olmsted home.

Her building is one of a series connected to South Franklin’s community center, which houses the fitness center, in-door heated pool and Radius Restaurant.

Jean appreciates this convenience, since she’s a regular in the water aerobics class three days a week and is strengthening her core flexibility through yoga. “I like having the ability to pick and choose what I get involved with here.”

She credits Debbie Cirillo, director of member services and operations, and the rest of the supportive staff with helping her feel at home. And she’s made plenty of new friends.

“I was surprised by everyone’s friendliness and generosity,” says Jean. “Everyone is so welcoming!”
